What Is Wheel Alignment?
Wheel alignment (also called tracking) adjusts the angles of your wheels back to your manufacturer's exact specification, so all four sit and point the way they're designed to. There are three angles involved:
- Toe - whether your wheels point slightly inward or outward when viewed from above, like the position of your toes when standing. Incorrect toe is the biggest cause of rapid, uneven tyre wear.
- Camber - the inward or outward tilt of your wheel when viewed from the front. Too much negative or positive camber wears one edge of the tyre faster than the other.
- Caster - the forward or backward tilt of your steering axis when viewed from the side. Caster affects steering stability and how well your steering wheel returns to centre after a turn.
Incorrect alignment usually happens gradually through everyday wear, or instantly from a pothole or kerb strike. Either way, the further out it drifts, the faster it wears your tyres and the less predictable your car feels to drive.
2-Wheel vs 4-Wheel Alignment
Most competitors just list both as options without explaining the difference. Here's what actually separates them.
| Question | 2-Wheel Alignment | 4-Wheel Alignment |
|---|---|---|
| What it adjusts | Front wheels only | Front and rear wheels |
| Best suited to | Cars with a fixed (non-adjustable) rear axle | Most modern cars, and any vehicle with independent rear suspension |
| Typical cause for booking | Pulling to one side, front tyre wear | Pulling, uneven wear front or rear, after new tyres or suspension work |
| Accuracy | Corrects what it can measure at the front | Full-vehicle reference, catches rear issues front-only alignment can miss |
| Our recommendation | Fine if your rear axle is fixed by design | The safer default for most vehicles on the road today |

Signs You Need Wheel Alignment in Aldershot
Aldershot's roads have their share of potholes and rough kerbs, both common causes of misalignment. Here's what to watch for.
Car pulling left or right
If you have to correct the steering to keep driving straight on a flat road, misalignment is the most likely cause.
Uneven or rapid tyre wear
Wear concentrated on one edge, or one tyre wearing noticeably faster than the others, is a classic alignment symptom.
Steering wheel off-centre
If the steering wheel sits crooked while driving straight, your wheels are pointing in a slightly different direction than your steering suggests.
Vibration while driving
Vibration can also point to balancing, but combined with pulling or wear, alignment is often the underlying cause.
Reduced handling or stability
A car that feels vague, wanders on the motorway, or takes longer to settle after a bend often has an alignment issue.
Recent pothole or kerb strike
Hit a pothole or clipped a kerb? Even if nothing feels obviously wrong, it's worth an alignment check before it wears your tyres unevenly.

What Happens If You Ignore It?
Misalignment rarely fixes itself, and the cost of ignoring it compounds the longer it's left.

Tyres wear out faster
Misaligned wheels drag rather than roll cleanly, wearing tread down unevenly and shortening tyre life, meaning you replace tyres sooner than you should.
Fuel efficiency drops
Wheels fighting against each other create extra rolling resistance, meaning your engine works harder to maintain the same speed.
Steering and safety suffer
A car that pulls or wanders is more tiring to drive and slower to respond in an emergency, particularly at motorway speed or in wet conditions.
Suspension takes extra strain
Persistent misalignment puts uneven load through bushes, ball joints and control arms, sometimes accelerating wear on parts that are expensive to replace.

Laser measurement
We measure your current toe, camber and caster angles against your manufacturer's exact specification.

Before & after printout
You get a clear printout showing your before and after readings, so you can see exactly what was corrected.
A note on modern cars: many newer vehicles use camera or radar-based driver assistance systems (ADAS) that can need recalibrating after alignment work. Tell us your make and model when you book and we'll confirm whether this applies to your car.
Wheel Alignment vs Wheel Balancing
These two get mixed up constantly, but they fix different problems. Here's the plain difference.
| Question | Wheel Alignment | Wheel Balancing |
|---|---|---|
| What it fixes | The direction your wheels point | Uneven weight around the wheel and tyre |
| Main symptom | Car pulling, uneven tyre wear | Vibration through the steering wheel or seat |
| When it's needed | After a pothole, kerb strike, or worn suspension | Every new tyre fit, or if you feel vibration at speed |
| Typically checked | Yearly, or every 6,000-10,000 miles | Whenever a tyre is changed, or vibration appears |
Not sure which one you need? Vibration usually points to balancing, pulling or uneven wear usually points to alignment, and sometimes a car needs both. Read our full guide to wheel balancing in Aldershot, or just tell us your symptoms when you call and we'll advise honestly.
